BURSARY PROGRAMME

In cooperation with Chesterville High School, Vukukhanye has initiated a Bursary project to facilitate tertiary education for deserving, disadvantaged learners.

The aim of the project is to contribute towards the ability of disadvantaged individuals from Chesterville Secondary School to achieve tertiary educational qualifications; by providing an incentive for high school achievement and by providing the necessary financial support, as well as mentoring and associated support, to deserving individuals. In this way it is hoped to contribute to the socio-economic development of Chesterville.

The initial goal is to award two (2) new bursaries in the first year of the bursary programme (2009 academic year) and a further 8 new bursaries from 2010-2013, at a rate of two new bursaries per year.

The bursaries will be offered in the form of a long-term, interest free loan. Once recipients are earning, they will be required to reinvest the value of the bursary they received into the bursary fund, and so contribute to the sustainability and growth of the fund.

Any contributions to this initiative would be most appreciated. Donations to the bursary fund can be made into the following bank account:

Account name:Vukukhanye
Bank: Standard Bank (Westville Branch)
Code: 051001
Account number: 25 254 884 1

Thank you very much.

2009 Bursaries

Bursaries were awarded for tertiary study to two Chesterville Secondary School Students (Class of 2008). Both students attended career assesment and guidance sessions to help them make educated decisions regarding their future, and have mentors supporting them through their study process.

Philile is registered at ICESA Matric School where she is repeating Grade 12 Maths and Physical Science. She is also receiving private maths tuition and will be starting a Personal Computing course through Rosebank College during the second semester. Samukelo is doing a comprehensive computer literacy course through Unisa and will start a certificate in Public Relations in the second semester. We wish them all the best in their studies.
