VUKUKHANYE EDUCARE CENTRE

image
The aim of the Vukukhanye Educare Centre is to facilitate the provision of quality preschool education to children from Chesterville within the school catchment area. Vukukhanye believes strongly that quality early childhood education is critical to the development of individuals, and ultimately impacts on the socio-economic progress of communities and our country as a whole. We are therefore strongly committed to the success of this project, which will contribute towards addressing a crucial need in Chesterville.

The school, which operates from two new prefabricated classrooms and five 2nd hand parkhomes, started on the 15th of February 2012. Forty-four children aged 1-4 years are enrolled, with seven volunteer staff (a supervisor/teacher, 4 teachers and 2 cooks/kitchen staff). The school currently operates under the NPO registration of Vukukhanye, but it is our intention to register the school over time with the Department of Education; while simultaneously developing the staff by equipping them with early childhood education and management skills.

We are encouraged by the progress to date and optimistic about the school's future and the effect it will have on the children, parents and teachers.
