BAMBA ISANDLA PRE-SCHOOL PROJECT

Vukukhanye is presently working with the Bamba Izandla Preschool in Chesterville, The school, which presently enrolls forty children, was initiated by a Vukukhanye Board member in 1993/4 and handed over to the community of Chesterville in 1995. Vukukhanye is raising funds towards the construction of a 1,400m2 preschool complex in Chesterville; capable of enrolling up to 180 children from Chesterville and the surrounding communities. The preschool will consist of an administration and reception area, eight classrooms, an additional meeting hall/utility classroom, a resource library, an amphitheatre surrounding an undercover work/play area and an equipped outdoor play area. The aim of this project is to facilitate the provision of quality preschool education to a broader population within the Chesterville region of Cato Manor. The estimated cost of the preschool project is nearly R5 million. This includes R4.7 million in construction costs and R275,000 for equipment and resources necessary to become operational. Any coopertion and support towards making this project a reality would be greatly appreciated.Vukukhanye is committed to providing ongoing management support to Bamba Izandla PreSchool, in order to promote consistently high standards of education and administration.

Limited resources and poverty have impaired the proper development of educational services in Chesterville. There are presently seven preschools in the area, which between them enroll approximately 500 children. Considering they serve an estimated 4,500 children under 6 years of age (Stats SA, 2001); it is clear that this region is under-served in terms of preschool education and that further investment and development is required.  

Vukukhanye believes strongly that quality early childhood education is critical to the development of individuals, and ultimately impacts on the socio-economic progress of communities and our country as a whole. In order to make a significant impact in this area Vukukhanye is facilitating the formation of a network of Creches within the Chesterville area, focusing on workshops dealing with training, resources and support.

The schools involved are: Bamba Izandla, Zamokuhle Creche, Mazenod, St Barnabas  Nabantwana Creche Siceluthando Educare Centre and Ekuthuleni Educare Centre.
